A total of five persons were killed by lightning strikes in Cumilla and Jhenaidah district on Sunday, report agencies.
In Cumilla, three people have died in a lightning strike at Homna upazila in Cumilla district.
The incident took place in Bhabanipur village around 3pm on Sunday, said upazila administrator (UNO) Ksemalika Chakma.
The deceased are identified as Zakia and Momtaz, both identified with single names, and Rashed Mia.
Local resident Abul Kashem said the victims were waiting at Bhabanipur Ghat on the Titas River to travel to Jhagra Char.
At that time, a lightning strike killed the two women on the spot.
Rashed, who was critically injured, was taken to the Homna Upazila Health Complex but died on the way.
Homna Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Jiban Biswas said, "We went to the scene after receiving information about the incident. Details will be provided later."
In Jhenaidah, two farmers were killed by lightning strikes in Sadar and Shailkupa upaizlas of Jhenaidah district on Sunday.
In Sadar upazila, Shimul Biswas, 30, a farmer of Armukhi village and son of Shamser Biswas, was killed as a thunderbolt struck him while working at his field around 11 am.
Besides, Harmat Sheikh, 55, a farmer of Shekhar village in Shailkupa upazila, was killed when a streak of thunderbolt struck on him at a field in Sunday morning.
Additional superintendent of Jhenaidah Police Imran Zakaria said two people died by lightning strikes in Sadar and Shailkupa upazilas amid inclement weather.
