Locals make handsome profit by running hotel for cows

TANGAIL, Aug 20: Residential hotel for cows is a new business concept among the traders of the district.

Sources said some 300 families have been making a good profit by doing such hotel business.

Gobindashi Cattle Market under Bhuapur upazila is well-known across the country.

The cow traders from different districts come to the cattle market for their business purpose round the year. Sometimes they with their unsold cows face difficulties to find a secured shelter.

To mitigate the problem some locals started residential hotels for cows around the cattle market over one year ago.

In a recent visit this correspondent found that there are around 300 hotels in the area. The hotel owners said they are earning a good profit from the venture.

They said they have attained financial solvency to their families.

Cattle owners have to spend Tk 10 to Tk 15 per night for renting a space for a cattle at the hotels.

Ator Ali, a cattle trader from Sirajganj, said, "I buy cows from different cattle markets of Sirajganj and sell those in Gobindashi cattle market."

He said, "Most of the time I cannot sell all of my cattleheads. That time I have rent space for my cattle at the hotels. My cows can take rest there. Hotels owners also arrange fodder for my cattlehead."

Local union council chairman Mostafizur Rahman said residential hotel for cow is an unique idea. It is also helpful for the traders.

Moreover, a good number of locals have become self-reliant from the venture, he added.
