Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex suffers acute shortage of manpower

SYLHET, Mar 18: The Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex in Habiganj has been suffering acute shortage of manpower. Only six physicians are at work among the 21 posts. In this situation, village people do not get proper services from the centre.

Posts of ENT specialist, cardiology, dentist, eye specialist and surgery have long been lying vacant while anesthesia consultant is on a foreign training.

Two pathologists are also on maternity leave. The post of resident medical officer also has long been lying vacant. Junior consultant for gynae had been deputed to the Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital for long.

Besides, delivery operations cannot be done as the posts of technicians on the Department of anesthesia, surgery and blood bank have long been lying vacant, hospital sources informed.

Old X-ray machines have been kept on its room under lock while the only ambulance remains unused due to absence of its driver.

The authority failed to even start functioning on the new building with 19-bed arrangement, constructed in 2004, due to manpower shortage. The new building is remained unused for years though all equipment are there too.

Locals said a good number of patients from the adjacent Bijoynagar and Nasirnagar upazilas visit the hospital for treatment but the health complex fails to fulfil their need.
