MAGURA, Oct 28: Inadequate supply of medicine, no generator, anaesthetist and ambulance service and deplorable condition of building have turned the Magura Maternity Hospital into a dire state.
Sources said at least 100 women rush to the hospital everyday for treatment. But the hospital authority is not capable to provide them proper treatment.
The post of anesthetist has been lying vacant over about 10 years. The pregnant women who need caesarean delivery have to go to the private clinics.
Besides, the hospital has no generator. In case of power outage delivery is performed in the hospital OT with the help of charger light.
Senior nurse of the hospital Monjuar Sultana said, "A total of 34 deliveries had been done at the hospital last month. Sometimes we cannot maintain hygiene environment. We cannot even provide adequate medicine to the patients due to lack of supply."
The hospital building is now in a vulnerable condition. Sometimes plaster of the ceiling came down upon the patients. Rainwater enters into the wards and OT through leakage.
The hospital has quarter for its gynae consultant. But the consultant resides outside of the hospital compound. Sometimes, the consultant is not available when the patients are in critical condition.
When contacted, gynae consultant of the hospital Dr Nandulal Biswas admitted the matter of absence of anesthetist and shortage of medicine supply.
Besides, when he was asked about residing outside instead of the government quarter, he said the hospital quarter is vulnerable and not congenial for residing. "Being compelled I have to reside outside of the hospital." The doctor further said, "I rush to the hospital instantly on any emergency."
