Man to die for killing wife in Barguna

BARGUNA, June 30 (BSS): A court here on Monday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife for dowry in Bamna upazila of the district in 2003.

Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Begum Lailatul Ferdous announced the verdict on Monday.

The death-row convict is Md. Kamal Hossain, 45, son of A. Aziz Hawlader of Uttar Kakchira village in Bamna upazila of the district. The convict was absconding at the time of the verdict, said Special Public Prosecutor Ranjuara Sipu. According to prosecution, convict Kamal and his family members used to torture his wife Jahanara for dowry. On September 30, 2003, Kamal Hossain got angry and kicked and beat his six-month pregnant wife Jahanara Begum over the matter.
