RANGPUR, July 09 (BSS): Speakers here stressed Thursday the need to raise mass awareness to build a social movement to prevent violence against women and children and eradicate child marriage from society.
They expressed these views at a seminar on "Preventing Violence Against Women and Children and Child Marriage" held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in the city.
Organised by the district administration and the Office of the Deputy Director of the Department of Women's Affairs, the seminar was attended by administrative officials, education officers and representatives of private sector organisations.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ruhul Amin attended the event as the chief guest.
Rangpur Civil Surgeon Dr Shaheen Sultana, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Services Aniruddha Kumar Roy, and Deputy Director of the Department of Women's Affairs Seloara Begum spoke as special guests at the seminar.
Participating in an open discussion session, the speakers explained the reasons behind these social evils, which have plagued society, especially poor and disadvantaged communities, for decades and have created unrest in family and social life.
They called upon all concerned, including government and private sector officials, marriage registrars, teachers and guardians, to set an example by not arranging child marriages and to work collectively to free society from these social evils.
The chief guest emphasised the importance of creating awareness and urged guardians, public representatives, marriage registrars and the administration to work together to prevent violence against women and children and eradicate child marriage from society.
He also emphasised the need for collective efforts by all stakeholders to eliminate these social evils by launching a strong movement and fostering greater awareness across all sections of society.
