NAOGAON, Jan 26: With the bumper production of Aman paddy, the rice mills in Mohadevpur Upazila of the district have reopened after a closure of several months.

The mills were closed between September and October last year due to lack of paddy supply.

Upazila Food Controller Office sources said there are some 336 husking rice mills and 18 auto rice mills in the upazila. More than twelve thousand people are engaged in the mills as workers at different levels. Most of them are female.

Smiles on the faces of the workers have come back after the rice mills throughout the area started functioning again.

Osman Gani, president of Mohadevpur Rice Mill Owners' Association said abundant production of Aman paddy this year had revived the rice mills in the area.

The employees have started coming back to the work as the mills are getting work orders again, Mr. Gani said. He expressed the hope that like the previous years, rice prepared in these mills would be sent to different parts of the country after meeting the local demand.
