NAOGAON, Apr 24: The new ‘children's ward’ at the Raninagar Upazila Health Complex in the district is providing special services to the child patients.

Poor people of the upazila who cannot afford expensive medicare service for their children from the private clinics are being benefitted the most from the ward.

Sources said apart from the regular services, the facility was introduced recently at the health centre through an initiative of the upazila health and family planning office, aiming to give special attention to the children.

The health centre started the ward with nine beds which would be expanded later considering the demand, the sources added.

One Kulsum Begum, who came to the hospital with her diarrhoea-affected child, expressed her satisfaction over the services of the newly-introduced ward at the health complex.

Iftekharul Alam Khan, upazila health and family planning officer, said earlier children were not usually treated with the proper care at upazila level health centres.

Although the child ward has been launched at the hospital with limited functions, all other necessary facilities for the children will be added from time to time, he added.
