Eight-year-old boy drowns in Khagrachhari's
Maini River
KHAGRACHHARI, June 15: An eight-year-old boy drowned in the Maini River in Dighinala Upazila of Khagrachhari on Saturday. The victim was identified as Md. Aryan, son of Md. Zakir Hossain, a resident of Dakshin Milanpur in Kabakhali Union of Dighinala. He was a first-grade student at Kabakhali Government Primary School. Dighinala Fire Service Station Officer Pankaj Barua said Aryan's body was recovered in the afternoon, about seven hours after he went missing. — UNB
Snakebite kills woman
in Munshiganj
MUNSHIGANJ, June 15: A woman died after being bitten by a poisonous snake in Betka area under Tongibari upazila of the district on Sunday . The deceased was China Mandal, 45, wife of Panat Mandal of the same area. Locals said a venomous snake bit him while she was sleeping at her house in the area around 4 am. She was rushed to Munshiganj General Hospital but on-duty doctors referred China Mandal to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) as her condition deteriorated. "She died on the way to DMCH," said Dr. Shaibal Basak, a doctor at the emergency department of Munshiganj General Hospital. — BSS
Fish fingerlings released in Rajshahi Central Jail ponds
RAJSHAHI, June 15: Around 550 kilograms of fish fingerlings consisting of various species, including rui, katla, mrigel, silver carps and pungus, were released in two ponds at Rajshahi Central Jail. The jail authority released 3,300 pieces of fingerlings weighing 200-700 grams each on an average aimed at making the jail self-reliant in fish through boosting production. — BSS
