Bodies of two missing children
recovered in Sherpur
SHERPUR, June 18: The bodies of two young girls, who had been missing since Tuesday noon, were recovered from a pond at a remote fish farm in the Battala area of Sribardi upazila in Sherpur early Wednesday. The deceased were identified as Swapna Begum, 6, daughter of truck driver Swapan Mia, and Sakal Begum, 7, daughter of Selim Mia. Both were residents of the Betalbari area in Tinani Chhankanda village under Sribardi upazila. According to family members and locals, the two children went missing around 12 pm on Tuesday. — UNB
Man sentenced to death for
rape in Keraniganj
A tribunal in Dhaka on Wednesday sentenced a man to death for violating his stepdaughter in 2021. The convict is Motahar, 41, son of Rifaz of Keraniganj upazila in Dhaka Dhaka Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Munshi Md Mashier Rahman handed down the punishment. The court also fined him Tk 0.1 million (one lakh Taka). Besides, the tribunal asked the Dhaka District Magistrate to sold the property of the convict and provide money to the victim. According to the prosecution, on June 20, 2011, Motahar violated the his stepdaughter after issuing a threat to kill her. — UNB
Smuggled goods worth
Tk 4.3m seized in Sylhet
SYLHET, June 18: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in different drives seized smuggled goods and drugs worth about Tk 4.3 million (Tk 43 lakh) in Sylhet and Sunamganj borders in the early hours of Wednesday. Different units of Sylhet BGB Battalion (48 BGB) conducted the drives at Banglabazar, Sonalichela, Kalasadek, Bichnakandi, Utma, Tamabil and Sreepur BOPs under the Sylhet BGB Battalion of Sylhet and Sunamganj districts and seized a large amount of Indian Phensedyl, alcohol, cattle, shrimp, renu pona, cumin, chocolate, biscuits, horlicks, soap, olive oil, various cosmetics and horn fish, a press release of the BGB Sylhet Battalion said. - BSS
