Minor boy drowns in bucket water

GAIBANDHA, June 21: A minor boy tragically drowned in water kept in a bucket at Goyalpara village under Palashbari upazila of the district on Saturday. The deceased was Salman Farsi, son of Manik Miah of the village. Family sources said a big bucket filled with water was kept on the yard of the victim's house for soaking paddy to be boiled. At one stage, the child fell into the bucket. Later, the child's body was recovered from the bucket. Union Parishad chairman Mostafizur Rahman confirmed the matter and urged the guardians to remain more vigilant about their children and their movements. — BSS

Workshop on objective journalism held in Jhenaidah

JHENAIDAH, June 21: A workshop on objective journalism was held for the journalists working in the district. Bangladesh Press Council Chairman Justice A K M Abdul Hakim today inaugurated the workshop titled "Check Misreporting and Do Objective Journalism" as the chief guest at the Circuit House Auditorium of the district around 9am on Saturday. The three and a half hours workshop ended at 12.30pm. Jhenaidah Deputy Commissioner Abdul Awal presided over the workshop while Bangladesh Press Council Secretary (Deputy Secretary) Md Abdus Sabur was present as the special guest. — BSS

Two held with 20-kg ganja

in Rangpur

RANGPUR, June 21: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested two suspected drug peddlers with 20 kg of contraband ganja from the Pirganj area of Pirganj police station in Rangpur district on Friday night. On a tip-off, an operational team of RAB-13's Crime Prevention Specialised Company (CPSC) searched a microbus, seized the smuggled ganja and the microbus and arrested the duo from the spot at 11 pm, a press release said on Saturday. The detainees are Md Kashem Ali, 23, son of Md Shamsul Haq of village Taluk Shakhati and Md Ahedul Islam, 45, son of Abdar Ali of village Koitari under Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat district. The elite force handed over the arrested persons along with the seized goods and vehicle to Pirganj police station in Rangpur today for further legal action, the release said. — BSS
