Man dies from hornet attack in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ, Sept 27: A 70-year-old man has been stung to death by a swarm of hornets while clearing his home yard in preparation for Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the minority Hindu community, on Friday. The deceased was identified as Satin Ojha, a resident of Bhangarhat village in Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj. Family members said Satin was cleaning bushes around his house in the morning when he unknowingly disturbed a hornet nest at around 10:00 am. Soon, a swarm of hornets from his banana grove descended on him. — UNB

Elderly Man found dead in Munshiganj

MUNSHIGANJ, Sep 27: Police recovered the hanging body of an elderly man with his hands tied behind his back beside a one-storey house in the Koykirttan area of Sreenagar upazila on Friday. The deceased was identified as Rafiq Sheikh, 60, a resident of the upazila. According to family members and police, Rafiq worked as a caretaker for his neighbor, Rana Sheikh's house. — UNB

Two minor boys drown

in canal

JHENAIDAH, Sept 27: Two minor boys drowned on Saturday in a canal at Dogachhi village in the Sadar upazila of Jhenaidah district. The victims were identified as Lamim Hossain, 5, son of Ripon Mondal of Dogachhi village in sadar upazila and Apon Hossain,7, son of Ujjwal Hossain of Aruwakandi village of the same upazila. Officer-in-charge (OC) of Jhenaidah Sadar thana Abdullah Al Mamun told the news agency that, "The children drowned when they were catching fish in the canal using fishing spear. — BSS

Schoolgirl dies from snakebite in Madaripur

MADARIPUR, Sept 27: A madrasa student died from snakebite at Purba Baligram village under Dasar upazila of Madaripur district on Saturday. The deceased was Limi Akhter, 13, daughter of Anwar Hossain of the village and a student of a local madrasa. A poisonous snake bit the girl when she was sitting in an open space near her house. Hearing her screams, family members rushed to the spot and took her to Madaripur General Hospital where she died while undergoing treatment, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dasar Police Station Sheikh Md. Ehteshamul Islam.
