One House One Farm project helps in eradicating poverty in Nilphamari

NILPHAMARI, Feb 28: One House One Farm project of Rural Development and Co-operative Division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-Operative is making a significant contribution in eradicating poverty and rehabilitations of beggars in Nilphamari district.
The project office sources said there are 32400 members in 520 samities (association) in the district where each samity consists of 60 members. Sources said excluding the aforesaid 520 samities there are 12 other extra associations exclusively in Kishorgonj upazila for the rehabilitation project of 997 beggars in the upazila.
The office sources mentionedd each and every samity member is provided with loan of an amount of minimum Tk 5,000 to Tk 20,000 on 8.0 per cent interest rate to repay within a year.
The families are also imparted need based training and motivation to run small business, rearing goats, cows and so on. A samity members need to save Tk 200 per month in his saving account and the government provide subsidy of the equivalent amount to the amount saved by the respective member.
The total saving of the members of the project and equivalent amount of the government subsidy constitute a revolving fund meant for the project.
Beggar Abdur Rahman of Kalikapur union under Kishorganj upazila said he has been provided one goat and Tk 5,000 to run a vegetables shop and that he has abandoned begging and earning his livelihood without any trouble.
