Onion prices come down in Cox’s Bazar

COX'S BAZAR, Oct 06: Onion prices have started to decrease in Cox's Bazar as a huge amount of onion has been imported from Myanmar through the Teknaf land port recently.

But prices of essentials including vegetables are suddenly increased here.

According to sources, at present onion is selling at Tk 55 to Tk 60 per kg instead of previous rate of Tk 100 to Tk 110 in the local markets.

Price of garlic which is also regarded as an important ingredient in cooking has shot up by at least Tk 30 per kg.

The spice item is selling at Tk 160 to Tk 170 or more per kg according to quality as against of Tk 130 previously.

Ginger is sold at Tk 280 per kg instead of Tk 150 to Tk 160 per kg.

Prices of all other spices also increased in the last two days. Newly-harvested bean is selling Tk 130 per kg which was Tk 100 per kg a few days ago.

Green chilli is sold at Tk 100 to Tk 110 per kg.

Some local traders said due to shortage of supply of vegetables and other goods they were 'compelled' to sell essential goods at high rates.

Besides, prices of poultry egg have fallen to some extent. At present farm produced eggs are sold in the local markets at Tk 36 to Tk 38 per hali (four pieces) instead of Tk 40.
