Pabna farmers start harvesting Boro

PABNA, Apr 01: Boro farmers of the district are satisfied over the production as they have recently started harvesting the crop.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Pabna sources said over 50,372 hectares of land were brought under the farming of Boro farming with a production target of 1, 98,129 tonnes.
Sources said growers are getting around 18 to 20 maunds of paddy from bigha of land.Per maund paddy is being sold at Tk 850 to Tk 1,000.
Farmer Abul Bashar of Mahmudpur village under Pabna Sadar said, "I cultivated Boro on one and a half bighas of land and got 26 maunds of paddy."Swapan Kumar Sarkar of Matiabari village under Sadar upazila said he cultivated the crop on six bighas of land and he got a good yield.
Bibhuti Bhushon Sarkar, deputy director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), said a number of factors like favourable climatic condition, adequate supply of necessary inputs like
fertilisers and pesticides have contributed to the expected output.
