Paddy growers prepare fields for Boro

SYLHET, Dec 09: Paddy farmers in Sylhet division have started preparing their fields for growing Boro.

Most of the seedbeds have been completed and the seedlings are growing well.

An official of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said seedbeds were prepared on 22,679 hectares of land in the four districts of the region, although the target was at 21,945 hectares.

Additional director of DAE, Sylhet divisional office, Md Altabur Rahman said weather condition is good now. Most the growers are now ready for starting Boro cultivation this season.

Meanwhile, the DAE has set the Boro farming target on 468,557 hectares in the region, including 79,709 hectares in Sylhet, 53,116 hectares in Moulvibazar, 118,197 hectares in Habiganj and highest 217,53 5 hectares in Sunamganj.

The trend of raising the cultivation area of the major crop proves the farmers would try for highest yield this season, the official further said.
