NILPHAMARI, Aug 04: Thousands of people in the district are attaining solvency from farming cassia leaf plant (Tejpata).

The spice plants are generally planted at homesteads.

People dry the leaves after plucking those from the plants.

Traders from different districts purchase the dried leaves from the growers directly.

The dried leaves are used as an essential spice in cooking.

Sources said grassroots people cultivate the spice item for extra profit.

Azizar Rahman, a day labourer of Itakhola union under Nilphamari Sadar, said he planted three saplings of cassia leaf plants at his homestead three years ago.
