Poor families in N districts get VGF rice before Eid

RAJSHAHI, Aug 20 (BSS): Some 1,54,250 poor and distressed families have been brought under vulnerable group feeding (VGF) programme in Rajshahi district to help them celebrating the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festival.

Under the specialised VGF programme, 3,085 tonnes of rice were allocated for distribution among the beneficiary families in nine upazilas and 14 municipalities in the district, officials concerned said.

Each of the beneficiary families is getting 20-kg of rice this time according to the list prepared earlier.

Meanwhile, rice distribution has completed Monday.

The government through the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has allocated the massive quantity of rice in the district.

As per direction and supervision of the district administration, the concerned upazila administrations with the assistances of local public representatives and union level committees have been distributing the rice among the listed VGF card holding families.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Alamgir Hossain told the news agency that distribution of VGF rice will be completed within the stipulated time so that the beneficiary poor and distressed families could celebrate the Eid festivity.

Respective union parishads prepared the list of the distressed people in their areas and wheat was distributed with approval of the concerned UNOs.

"We are very much hopeful about successful distribution of the VGF rice on time," said Syeda Sadia Nuria, UNO of Charghat upazila.

She said as per the directives of the deputy commissioner necessary measures were taken to distribute the VGF rice to the beneficiaries of the upazila before Eid.

In Rangpur, over 0.42 million poor and distressed families of the district got 20 kg rice each under the government's special Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme.

"Under the programme, distribution of 4,168.61 tonnes rice completed here today for assisting the poorer section people to celebrate the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha with festivity," said Acting District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) Abul Hayat.

Earlier, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief allocated the huge quantity of VGF rice for distribution among the card holder families in all eight upazilas and three pourashabhas in the district.

The upazila administrations with assistance of local public representatives and union level committees distributed the rice among the VGF card holder families of the district.

"Each of the selected beneficiary family received 20 kg VGF rice on the Eid-ul-Azha all 77 unions under eight upazilas and three pourashabhas in the district," the Acting DRRO said.

Under the programme, 537.30 tonnes of rice was distributed among 26,865 beneficiary families in Sadar upazila, 1,782.02 tonnes among 89,101 families in Mithapukur, 1,355 tonnes among 67,550 families in Pirganj, 1,094.06 tonnes among 54,703 families in Pirgachha, 897.08 tonnes among 44,854 families in Kawnia, 1,011.16 tonnes among 50,558 families in Gangachara, 1,112.48 tonnes among 55,624 families in Badarganj and 545.98 tonnes among 27,299 families in Taraganj upazilas.

The authorities distributed 61.62 tonnes VGF rice among 3,081 poor and distressed families in Badarganj pourasabha and 30.80 tonnes of rice among 1,540 families each in Haragachh and Pirganj municipalities.

Chairmen Aminur Rahman of Chandanpat union and Iqbal Hossain of Haridebpur union under Sadar upazila said they completed distribution of VGF rice a couple of days ago.

Similarly, Chairmen Abul Kalam Azad Titul of Nohali union under Gangachara union and Mohammad Faruk Mian of Kholeya union under Sadar upazila said they completed distribution of VGF rice among the card holder poor and distressed families.
