Rajshahi road accidents kill two, hurt five

RAJSHAHI, Oct 28 (BSS): Two persons, including a businessman, were killed and five others injured in two separate road accidents in the district on Wednesday, police and hospital sources said.
The deceased were identified as Abdus Salam, 50, an onion businessman of Telipara village under Puthiyaupazila, and Nasir Uddin, 28, son of Idrish Ali of Kasimala village under Mohanpurupazila.
Businessman Salam met with a fatal road accident when his motorbike collided head-on with a pickup van laden with betel leaf at Ujankhali village in Durgapur Upazila in the morning. He was immediately rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. On the other hand, a Rajshahi-bound passenger bus suddenly knocked down pedestrian Nasir Uddin at Bidirpur village on the Rajshahi-Naogaon highway under MohanpurUpazila killing him on the spot. Five other people were also injured in the accident and they were admitted to RMCH.
Police seized the bus but its driver managed to escape, MustaqueAhemd, Officer-in-Charge of Mohanpur Police Station, said.
