RANGPUR, Dec 11: The early bean farmers of the district are happy with bumper production and record profit from their produce this season.

The high yield of the vegetable has encouraged many farmers in expanding early bean farming next season, sources said.

During a visit to different places in the district, the FE correspondent saw bean growers taking care of their fields. Many were found harvesting their produce.

This year, local farmers have put utmost efforts to achieve the bean production target and earned handsome profit through its sales.

Ekramul Mia, a cultivator of early bean at Rupshi village in Mithapukur upazila, has told The Financial Express that he is interested in farming early bean owing to a good profit than that of some

other crops.

He has cultivated early bean on 25 decimals of land this season. He has made a profit of Tk 15,000 by selling bean and is also optimistic about earning around Tk 80,000.

Expressing satisfaction, Ataur, a bean grower of Palichara village in Rangpur Sadar upazila, told the FE that over the last 3 years he has been getting an excellent yield as well as huge profit from early bean farming.

He said he cultivated early bean on 30 decimals of land this season and already began harvesting the vegetable in full swing.

"I will earn more than Tk 90,000 through cultivating early bean this year," he added.

Reaz Uddin, deputy director of the Department of Agricultural Extension in Rangpur, told the FE that around 2,000 hectares of land have been brought into cultivation of early winter vegetables, including early bean, in the district this season.

He said that due to

huge profit, local farmers are getting interested in cultivating different early varieties of vegetables.

The DAE has taken various measures, including timely

supply of necessary agri-inputs, to increase production of bean and other vegetables.

"Early harvest helps bean growers get a fair price of the produce," he added.
