RANGPUR, Mar 11: Rangpur city dwellers are facing serious trouble as mosquito menace has become acute in the city in recent times.
Just after sunset swarms of mosquitoes from nearby derelict tanks, ponds, bushes, water bodies and dirty drains invade the houses with full fury disturbing the study of the students, sleep of the inmates and affect household activities.
A number of city dwellers alleged that even in the day time they do not get rid of mosquito bite. Normal activities are hampered due to this menace. The students and children are the worst sufferers of mosquito bite.
The countless mosquitoes start coming to the residences, hospitals, clinics, hotels, business establishments, offices etc. Every night people adopt various means to get rid of mosquito but all their efforts prove in vain, sources said.
The poor people who cannot afford to purchase mosquito-net and coils face serious problem during sleeping time at night. The mosquitoes are not sparing the domestic animals.
Taking advantage of the discomfort of the city dwellers dishonest traders have been selling adulterated mosquito coils to make quick money easily, sources alleged.
Abedul Hafiz, a resident at Mulatol area in the city said they are suffering much due to mosquito menace which is getting unbearable day by day. They fear a comeback of the mosquito-borne diseases, he also said.
A number of city dwellers alleged that they find it difficult to stay at homes without using mosquito coils or spraying aerosol. Mosquito menace increased manifold in recent times, they added.
According to sources mosquito menace had intensified during winter as water flow remained low in the season due to lack of rain. As a result water bodies in the city turned breeding ground for mosquito, sources further said.
It is alleged that City Corporation authorities seem to be indifferent to combat this mosquito menace which put the city dwellers in unbearable sufferings.
