MAGURA, Oct 20: Rebeka Khatun, a housewife has become self-reliant by selling vegetables thanks to the generosity and help of the farmers of his village.

She lives in Polita village under Magura Sadar upazila with her husband and three children.

Rebeka married Abdul Halimof Subedbazar village under Golapganj upazila of Sylhet district 28 years ago. That time they were solvent as Halim was doing a job in Dubai, UAE.

But a tragic road accident changed their lives. Abdul Halim had to come back home from Dubai.

Rebeka said, "That time we could not even feed our children properly."

"At the moment, I met a local agriculture entrepreneur Mr Dider. He encouraged me to start a vegetable business", she further said.

"It was definitely a good idea, but shortage of capital was the main barrier. Later, some growers of the village helped me a lot. They helped me supplying vegetables on credit", Rebeka said.

After collecting the vegetables from local famers she started selling those in the Notun Bazar of the district town.

"I pay back the money of local farmers from the sales proceeds of vegetables. I always try to repay the money of local farmers timely", she said.

Rebeka now runs her own business. Her daily income is around Tk 700 to Tk 800.

"All of my children go to school. My husband is recovering after treatment", Rebeka said.

Rebeka said, "I am grateful to local vegetable growers who have stood by me in my hard days."
