Rebeka Khatun achieves solvency by rearing cows

JASHORE, Aug 29: Rebeka Khatun of Mobarakkathi under Jessore Sadar has attained financial solvency by rearing cow.
The mother of two said she has been rearing cattleheads for 30 years after the death of her husband.
She said local livestock officer had encouraged her to start the venture.
Rebeka Khatun said she raised up his children from the earning of cow rearing.
"My daughter is married now. My only son has already completed his masters", she added.
"I have now seven cows. I can be an example to the ultra poor of my area", said Rebeka Khatun, adding, "I have seven cows now."
Rebeka Khatun was talking with this correspondent at the one-day exhibition of hybrid calves at Shankarpur in Jashore recently.
The district Livestock Department and Feed the Future Bangladesh Livestock Production for Improved Nutrition of the USAID arranged the event.
Kalyan Kumar Faujder, deputy director, Khulna divisional Livestock Department kicked off the inaugural session as the chief guest.
Jashore Sadar upazila livestock officer Dr Tapaneswar Roy presided over the programme.
A total of 24 calves of different species were exhibited at the exhibition.
