Recent rainfall a boon for Boro, wheat growers of Magura

MAGURA, Mar 02: Recent rainfall has come as a boon for Boro and wheat growers in the district.

Sources said the recent five-day rain has brought a positive impact for the two main crops.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Magura, sources said some 35,340 hectares of land have been brought under the farming of Boro this season with an output target of 0.14 million tonnes of rice.

Besides, some 4,850 hectares of land were brought under the farming of wheat with the production target of 14,550 tonnes.

Local meteorology office said the district experienced about 55 mm rainfall in five days.

Farmer Moniruzzaman of Beroil village under Magura Sadar said he is growing Boro on three bighas of land this year.

He said, "The recent rain saved Tk 5,000 irrigation cost."

Another farmer Belal Sheikh of Akshi village said, "My Boro field looks fresh now. I am expecting a bumper production."

Wheat cultivator Jalal Mian of Gangnalia village under Magura Sadar said, "My one bigha land faced insect attack a couple of weeks ago. My cropland is now free insect attack."

Magura DAE official Shohrab Hosssein said recent rain has brought smile on the faces of Boro and wheat growers.

However more or delayed rainfall could have caused harm to both the crops.
