Renovation work on Domar-Chilahati road not yet complete

NILPHAMARI, May 19: Repairing and renovation works of 15-km long Domar-Chilahati road of the district was scheduled to be completed in the month of February last year. But the contractor could not finish the works of the road even after extending time for consecutive three occasions.

Till date works of 10 km road has been completed. But people are suffering for not completing the rest of the work.

The rest 5.0 km road work which is yet to be completed has become unusable, cracks, potholes and mud created untold suffering to the vehicles and pedestrians.

LGED sources said the renovation project titled 'Northern Bangladesh Integrated Development Project' funded jointly by JICA of Japan and Bangladesh government was undertaken at a cost of Tk 78 millon. The work is being implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED).

Source said contractor firm Messrs Atiar Rahman was given the work order in February 22, 2016 on condition to complete the works within February 21, 2017 but the time was extended by three occasions up to March 2018.

LGED official Shah Md Obaidur Rahaman said the renovation work would be completed within a month or so which could be completed much earlier but due to negligence of the contractor it is remained incomplete. He said punitive measures would be taken against the concern contractor.
