Revenue earning in customs duty for ‘Satkora’ import increases

SYLHET, Nov 11: Revenue income in Customs duty for importing a citrus fruit, locally called 'Hatkora' (or Satkora) from the Indian states of Assam, Mizoram and Meghalaya to Sylhet region marked a rise during the last four months amid the Covid 19 outbreak situation.

It is largely consumed in the region for cooking meat or fish curry.

Official sources informed the amount stood at Tk 21544,000(Tk35.44m) during the period from July to October 2020 whereas it was Tk 2476,610(2.476m) during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

During the period from July 2020 to October, a total of 2,018.22 tonnes of the said variety of citrus fruit worth Tk 89606,620(89.6m) was imported through the different LC stations in Sylhet against the previous year's 973 tonnes worth Tk 29649,000(29.49), the source added.

Contacted, the commissioner of Customs, excise & Vat, Sylhet, Hossain Ahmed said today the rise in revenue income had been mainly due to the strict measures taken against irregularities on the import formalities through the LC stations in the region.

Sylhet Divisional Perishable Goods Importers & Exporters Group president Abul Kalam told this correspondent 'Satkora' is imported through Sheola, Zakiganj, Chela and Tamabil LC stations in Sylhet from Assam, Mizoram and Meghlaya.
