Revenue target not achieved at Benapole customs

JESSORE, July 6:  The target of revenue earnings at Benapole customs house was not achieved in the fiscal year 2013-2014 with a shortfall of Tk 1.19 billion.

Confirming the information, Golam Kibria, official of the customs house said that revenue target was fixed at Tk 26 billion for fiscal year 2013-2014 by the National Board of Revenue. But the house realised Tk 24.80 billion instead as revenue.

Mofizur Rahman Sazan, president, Benapole Customs Clearing and Forwarding Agents Association told that the reasons being shortfall of customs revenue include thefts of goods at the warehouse, interruption in the internet connection, forced assessments of goods value by the Customs and soon.

Mahbubuzzaman, Customs Commissioner, Benapole said that new systems were introduced at the customs house, but is not follow properly for which revenue target was not achieved.
