KUSHTIA, Apr 10 (UNB): A 43-year-old rickshaw-puller was killed in a lynch-mob attack in Kushtia district town on Thursday, suspecting him to be a thief.
The victim was identified as Surman Khan of GK Colony in the district town.
Meanwhile, police detained a couple and their daughter in this regard.
The victim's
nephew, Sajal, said an incident of theft occurred in the house of detained fuchka vendor Hakim on Tuesday
night. The accused resides in the same colony.
Suspecting him a thief, Hakim's followers picked the victim up from his house around 1am
on Wednesday and beat him up at the house of the accused, he said.
At one stage
of lynching, the rickshaw-puller died
while the accused fled the house sensing the danger, Sajal said.
Superintendent
of police Md Mizanur Rahman
and Kushtia model police station's officer-in-charge Mosharraf Hossain visited the spot on Thursday morning.The OC
said they recovered the victim's body whose neck was tied
with a rope at the accused's house.
He said they have already detained three accused in this regard
and efforts were underway to catch the
remaining accused involved in this incident.
