Road accidents claim six lives in three dists

A total of six people were killed in separate road accidents in three districts - Mymensingh, Rangpur and Meherpur- on Sunday, report agencies.

In Mymensingh, three people were killed and five others injured on Sunday as a bus collided with a human hauler at Barkhila in Haluaghat upazila in the district.

Two of the deceased were identified as Lovely, 42, Saber Ali, 65 while identity of the other could not be known yet.

Officer-in-charge of Haluaghat Police Station Kamrul Islam Mia said the collision between the two vehicles took in the afternoon, leaving eight people injured. The injured were admitted to the Haluaghat Upazila Health Complex.

Two of them died at the Health Complex and while the other at Mymensingh General Hospital, he said.

In Rangpur, two persons were killed and five others injured in a road accident at Islampur Adarshapara point on the Rangpur-Dhaka Highway under Mithapukur upazila.

"The accident occurred when an unidentified truck hit a Thakurgaon bound night coach from Dhaka from the opposite direction there at 6:30 am and ran away", said In-charge of Barodorga Highway Police Camp Sub-inspector (SI) Moazzem Hossain.

"After being hit, driver of the ill-fated night coach lost control over the steering when the coach stroke a roadside tree leaving two of its passengers dead on the spot and injuring five others," SI Hossain added.

The deceased persons were identified as Abdul Aziz, 55, son of late Ali Akbar Munshi of village Dakshin Gazichot under Ashulia Thana in Dhaka and Shah Jamal, 45, son of Saheb Ali of Khansama upazila in Dinajpur districts.

Highway police immediately rushed to the spot and rescued the injured persons and sent them to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

Meanwhile, in Meherpur, a teenage boy was killed in a road accident at Gopalnagar village under Gangni upazila.

The victim was identified as Badhon, 14, a student of class eight of Gangni Pilot High School and resident at Kallyanpur village of the upazila.

The accident took place on the Gangni-Hatbaria road when motorbike rider Badhon hit a roadside tree as he lost control over his bike, said Horendronath Sarker, Officer-in-Charge of Gangni police station.

Badhon died on the way to Gangni Upazila Health Complex.
