RAJSHAHI, Apr 13: A teacher of the Botany Department at Rajshahi University Prof Monzur Hossain after a two-year research has succeeded in transforming green chili into powder.

"I did not mix any chemical with it. Colour and taste of the powder remains the same as green chilli. I have already started marketing the product and got a good response", he added.

The professor said at the end of 2016, he took the research work with a Japanese professor Kenji Tisuji.

In cooperation with the Japanese Miyoshi-Akafuji Enterprise Company Limited, the research started on the premises of Alo-Asha School in Katakhali area of Rajshahi city. Factory Manager of the company Majibur Rahman also joined them later.

After two years, they succeeded to develop the green chilli powder.

"We first separate the seeds from the chilli and let it dry in the open sky. Next step is to powder the chilli. No artificial colour, flavour or materials are used in the process of transforming green chilli into powder", he added.

BSTI authorities said it is not harmful for the human body. It can be used as like as other spices during cooking.

Mr Hossain said to produce one gram of green chilli powder it is needed 12 grams of green chilli.

Monzur Hossain expressed the hope that one day his invented green chilli powder will be an export item and will contribute to the country's GDP.
