RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, July 07: The Rajshahi University (RU) authorities decided to scrap MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) pattern in the intake test of first year honours course from the academic sessions of 2018-19.

Sources said that such a decision has been taken from a meeting of RU admission sub-committee recently chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. M Abdus Sobhan.

Besides, VC also assured the matter at a press briefing after the inaugural ceremony to celebrate 65 years founding anniversary of the university in front of administrative building Friday.

He said, the admission seekers would have to write descriptive answers in the admission tests what they did in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams.

Asked about the reason behind making such a decision, Prof Sobhan said, proper evaluation of students was not possible with the MCQ system. Besides, there are scopes for forgery in that systems.

"If we introduce descriptive format system, we would be able to evaluate the merit of students properly," he observed.

'There will be a written examination of 100 marks. The duration of the examination will be of two hours,' he said.

RU authority also reduced unit into four from eleven units in the admission test while total test will be held into two days rather than previous week long.

Primarily, the admission test date has been fixed will be held on October 22 and 29 this year.

In the first phase, the students will be selected according to their academic scores of SSC and HSC level. Later, the selected candidates will be able to draw their admit card after paying a certain fee while only 16,000 admission seekers to sit for the intake test under each unit.

However, all these decision to be finalised after holding the meeting of RU main admission committee soon, VC added.
