As the holy Eid-ul-Azha is drawing nearer, cattle markets across the country are reportedly buzzing with sacrificial animals, traders and buyers.

Sources said cattle owners and traders are taking their domestic animals to different markets to sell them for good profits.

Besides, many farm owners have opened Facebook pages with cell numbers to sell their animals.

Our Chandpur correspondent reports that most farm owners in the district are busy taking care of their animals to sell them at high prices. According to livestock officer Jyotirmoy Bhowmik, a total of 62,098 animals are ready for sacrifice on the occasion of the Eid in the district.

There is a short fall of over 14,000 sacrificial animals in the district, officials said.

Over 200 cattle markets are being set up in eight upazilas of Chandpur.

In every market, there are arrangement of treatment facilities of animals and deployment of police to maintain law and order and ensure security for traders.

There are a total of 3,770 enlisted animal farm owners in the district.

Official statistics say 76,354 animals are needed to meet the demand. Prices of sacrificial animals may be higher this year due to the abnormal price hike of animal feeds, livestock officials hope.

Our Correspondent from Magura says that many cattle owners are fattening their animals to sell them at higher prices and expect to earn Tk 6000 million during this Eid.

Cattle traders from different districts like Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet are already offering different prices for their cattle.

According to sources at the district livestock department, a total of 81,473 cattle are being fattened against the demand for 66,978 in the district. District livestock officer Mihir Kanti Biswas said mobile teams will work in cattle markets to provide cattle with health services and ensure steroid-free cattle markets.

"We hope fatteners will make a lucrative profit this year as there is no apprehension of imported cattle.

A Correspondent from Bogura writes that the northern district has an adequate supply of sacrificial animals.

According to the district livestock office, this year the demand for sacrificial animals in Bogura is estimated at around 700,000, while the district has a supply of nearly 746,000 animals, including cows, goats, buffaloes, and sheep.

The number of animals available for sacrifice was 734,451 last year.

Farmers have raised more cattle this year to make huge profits, said a livestock official.

However, despite the adequate supply, many farmers are skeptical about getting fair prices for their livestock.

"The price of cattle feed has gone up by around 30 per cent, which has also pushed up the cost of raising cattle," said Obaidul Hoque, a farmer from Shibganj upazila.

Our Gaibandha correspondent reports, the sacrifice is more than 70 thousand animals, the farmers are spending time.

Our correspondent from Gaibandha says that a total of 196,277 animals have been kept ready for sales on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

Official sources said there are more than 69,972 animals than the demand.

Gaibandha Sadar Upazila Livestock Officer Tarun Kumar Datta told the Financial Express that this time 35,061 animals have been prepared for sacrifice in Sadar upazila of the district.

Of these, bull cows are 7,570, bulls 450, cows 5596, buffaloes 50, goats 19,792 and sheep 1,600.
