Scientists for growing more chickpea in Barind region

RAJSHAHI, Mar 15 (BSS): Agricultural scientists and researchers at a meeting urged the farmers to cultivate chickpea on more lands in the region including the vast Barind tract to meet the gradually increasing demands of pulse.

They said there are enormous prospects of harvesting additional 10,000 tonnes of the pulse every year in the high barind tract comprising Rajshahi, Naogaon and Chapainawabganj districts. The farmers should take the responsibility of best uses of the potentiality, they added.

They were addressing a farmers' field day titled "Block Demonstration on Chickpea Modern Farming" at Bahapur village under Shapahar upazila of the district on Wednesday. Chickpea farming projection plot on 40 bigha of land were set up there.
