Small jute mills run losses in Nilphamari

Our Correspondent | February 06, 2014 00:00:00

NILPHAMARI, Feb 5:  Small Jute mills of Syedpur are suffering from working capital shortage due to huge stockpile of their unsold products.

Sources said when in 2005 the government auctioned 25 per cent machineries of Adamjee Jute mill, these small mill entrepreneurs were the buyers. They bought 10 to 50 looms to set up small jute sacking factories. There are six such small jute mills in Syedpur.

These jute mills were dependent on local consumption of their product but due to political turmoil of hartal and blockade for months, their products were not sold. As a result the mills are running short of required working capital to continue production.
