Social harmony for ensuring good governance stressed

RAJSHAHI, Feb 09 (BSS): Speakers at a discussion stressed upholding social and political harmony for the sake of institutionalisation of democracy with ensuring good governance everywhere in the society.

Responsive and positive roles by all quarters, including the social and political leaders, had become indispensable for maintaining peace and social harmony for overall development of the nation, they observed.

The observation came in a daylong gathering of youths and local influential leaders at Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Central Zoo and Park in the city on Friday.

Regional office of the Hunger Project Bangladesh (THPB) organised the meeting in association with British Council under its "Promoting Democratic Inclusion and Governance through Youth (PRODIGY)" project.

Ward Councilors of Rajshahi City Corporation Md Kamruzzaman and Ayesha Khatun, political leader Tanzir Hossain, retired banker Ansarul Haque, business leader Mohesh Chandra Sarker, college teacher Muhammad Ali, School teacher Mahbubul Alam, journalist Anisuzzaman, THPB Regional Coordinator Shashanka Baron Roy and PRODIGY Field Coordinator Subrata Kumar Paul addressed the meeting.

Speakers said the nation would get rid of all kind of differences and confusion if people of the society took a positive approach to establish peace and amity from their own position.

They said that all sorts of violence, crimes and other anomalies in the society could be reduced to a greater extent through maintaining social and communal harmony everywhere.

Political parties, professional leaders, development workers, influential persons and people in general should work together in this regard, they added.
