Suspended cop lands in jail for torturing wife in Chattogram

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 16 (UNB): A court here sent on Tuesday a suspended assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) to jail for allegedly torturing his wife.

The accused police officer, Rezaul Islam, was posted at Pahartali Police Station.

Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 Judge Zamiul Haidar passed the order after rejecting Rezaul's bail plea.

Plaintiff's lawyer Advocate Jewel Das said Rezaul surrendered before the court in the morning and prayed for bail.

He said Rezaul used to torture his wife frequently whereby she filed a case with the tribunal.

On October 08, 2017, Rezaul was suspended for his involvement in trading smuggled motorcycles.

On November 13, an arrest warrant was issued for Rezaul but police failed to arrest him.
