SYLHET, Nov 15: With no natural disasters
similar to flood, or drought
affecting transplanted Aman (T-Aman) fields in
Sylhet this year,
farmers are expecting a good yield, as the harvesting is set to begin in full swing in less than two weeks.
The Sylhet
divisional office of the Department of Agricultural Extension projected
a yield of 1,165,520 tonnes of produce after paddy was
cultivated on 416,800 hectares this year.
Among the
paddy harvested from 15,000 hectares till last week, growers in Sunamganj harvested 10 per cent, which was the highest in the division.

g paddy as there was no flood, or drought this year. Stating
that they cultivated paddy on more land compared to the year before, Hasib added they secured a better yield from some areas which had sedimented land.
Some other farmers expressed a similar sentiment.
Trade of the
T-Aman paddy also started at a limited scale on the local markets, while it would get
momentum in a fortnight,
trader Aminul
Haq of Sylhet Sadar upazila
said. A maund of paddy is now being sold around Tk 1400, he added.
Sunamganj

farmers here were more interested in cultivating
Aman.
Besides, some of the newer varieties, including some invented by the
Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture were well accepted by the farmers. Binadhan-16, Binadhan-17 etc are the highest popular varieties among the short duration ones, he added.
