SYLHET, Mar 06: Mustard farmers of all the four districts of the division are achieving a good yield as they have started harvesting the oily seed recently.
Sources said so far crops of around 4,405 hectares of land have already been harvested while the total cultivated area was 7,443 hectares.
Per acre average output in Sylhet, Moulvibazar and Habiganj districts is 1.2 tonnes while in Sunamganj 1.25 tonnes. So the division's average yield stood at 1.23 tonnes per acre, sources added.
Production would have increased if the growers would get much time to prepare the land, said an official of DAE, Sylhet divisional office. The DAE had set some demonstration plots in different areas to woo the common and new farmers towards the crop.
Many farmers, however, were found interested in growing mustard to earn extra money through honey collection.
A good number of apiculturists were seen engaged in collecting honey from the bee boxes, kept in the mustard lands in Habiganj, Sylhet and Sunamganj, the official further said.
