Sylhet, Satkhira, Feni road crashes kill seven

A total of seven persons were killed in separate road accidents in Sylhet, Satkhira and Feni districts on Sunday, report agencies.

In Sylhet, five people, including a child, were killed when a truck rammed into a private car on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway at Unishmile in Osmaninagar upazila of Sylhet district on Sunday.

Four of the deceased were identified as

Sohel, 40, Shamima, 40, Ety Begum, 35, and Ayan, 7, while the identity of another victim could not be known yet.

"The accident occurred around 7:30 am when the truck hit the private car, leaving two people killed on the spot and three others injured," said Md Ashrafuzzaman, superintendent of Osmaninagar-Biswanath circle police.

The injured were taken to a local hospital where the other victims succumbed to their injuries.

In Feni, a man was killed and three others were injured in a head-on collision between a covered van and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Sonagazi upazila of the district on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Nizam Uddin.

The incident took place at Laxmipur Old Road intersection when a covered van collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw around 7.30 am, leaving CNG passenger Nizam dead on the spot and injuring three others, said M. Bayezid Akon, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sonagazi Model Police Station.

The injured were sent to Feni 250-Bed General Hospital, the OC added.

In Satkhira, a seven-year-old schoolgirl was crushed under the wheels of a brick-laden trolley in Debhata upazila of Satkhira on Sunday morning.

The deceased was Mim Akhtar, a second grader of Devishahar Government Primary School and the daughter of Alamgir Hossain of Kalbari village.

Debhata Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hazrat Ali said Mim was on her way to school with friends when the speeding trolley ran her over in front of the school.

Locals detained the trolley driver, Monirul Islam Munna, and handed him over to the police.

The body has been sent to Satkhira Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, the OC added.
