Tangail ginger growers happy with present market price

TANGAIL, Sept 08: Ginger cultivators in the district are happy over the present market price.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Tangail sources said ginger was cultivated on 1,285 hectares of land this season.

Among 12 upazilas of the district, Modhupur and Ghatail produce quantity ginger.

Market sources said ginger price is high in the local markets this season.

Retailer of Park Moydan Bazar in the district town Hasan Miah said one kg of ginger is selling at Tk 160 to Tk 180.

A ginger grower of Ghatail upazila Arif Miah said he has cultivated ginger on 20 decimals of land.

The cultivator made a profit of Tk 10,000 from his produce.

Nargis Akhter, sub-assistant agriculture officer of Tangail DAE, said weather and soil of the district are suitable for growing the spice crop.

Cultivators should expand the farming of the item to make more profit, she added.
