Three to die for killing trader in B'baria

BRAHMANBARIA, Feb 13 (UNB): A Brahmanbaria court on Thursday convicted three people and sentenced them to death for killing a trader in 2019.
Brahmanbaria Additional District and Session Judge Ayesha Akter Shumi handed down the punishment.
The condemned convicts are identified as Kajal Mia, 49, son of Kabir Mia, Ripon Mia, 32, son of Abdul Khalek and Russel Mia, 30, son of Nazrul Islam of Bancharampur upazila of the district. Of them, Russel Mia tried in absentia.
The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each.
According to the prosecution, police recovered the body of Saidur Rahman, a fruit trader and son of Abul Malek of Baherchar village, from the launch ghat in Meghan River on September 29, 2019, one day after he had gone missing.
Lokman Mia, brother-in-law of Saidur filed a case with Bancharampur Police Station.
The convicts admitted that they killed Saidur as they failed to realise the debt money Tk 20,000
from him
On September 19, 2020, police submitted chargesheet against three people.
