Thrust on eco-friendly pest management for mango farmers

JAMALPUR, June 24 (BSS): A two-day training programme on "Eco friendly integrated management of major pests of mango" began today in the conference room of Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS), Jamalpur.
The RARS is organising the training for 60 farmers of Ghuradhap union in Jamalpur Sadar to disseminate information about the potentiality of mango cultivation.
Experts said mango cultivation is being expanded sharply in the country creating an opportunity for exporting those (mangoes) to many foreign countries.
They urged the scientists of Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute to develop high-yielding and quality varieties of mango for attracting both local and international markets.
Alongside inventing quality and high-yielding variety of mango, the experts laid emphasis on developing better pest management for mango cultivation to make it a safe fruit for human health.
Project Director Dr Md Abdul Mannan presided over the event.
The inaugural function was addressed by Chief Scientific Officer of RARS, Jamalpur Dr Md Tariqul Islam, Principal Scientific Officer Dr Md Rajab Ali and Additional Deputy Director, DAE Md Nuruzzaman.
