Thrust on ensuring rights of girl child

LALMONIRHAT, Oct 09 (BSS): Ensuring rights of girl child and preventing early marriage have become crucial to ensure their normal growth and make them worthy citizens for attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The observation came on Tuesday at a human chain programme held at Mission Mour Square in the district to observe the National Girl Child Day-2018 and Child Marriage Prevention Day-2018.

The district administration and District Women Affairs Officer's Office with assistance of district unit of National Children's Task Force (NCTF) and District Shishu Academy organised the event.

Many girl students, teachers, guardians, freedom fighters, NGO activists, women and human rights workers, socio-cultural activists, journalists and civil society members participated.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rafikul Islam addressed the programme as the chief guest with District Women Affairs' Officer Tuhinur Rahman in the chair.

Freedom fighters Captain (retd) Azizul Haque (Bir Pratik) and SM Shafikul Islam Kanu, poet Ferdousi Begum Beauty, Principal of Mazida Khatun Government Women College Nazrul Islam, Headmistress Mohsena Begum Mina and Headmaster Rajibur Rahman addressed as special guests.

The speakers discussed negative impacts of child marriage that shatters life of the adolescents at their premature ages hindering their normal growth and flourishing latent talents.

They put emphasis on ensuring equal rights, safety and security of all girl children, their education and health care and stopping early marriage and violence against female children to make them worthy citizen.

Mohsena Begum called for extending necessary assistance to all girl children to flourish their latent talents and eradicate prevailing discriminations and inequalities for ensuring their safety, security and equal participation in the nation building activities.

The chief guest said every girl child must enjoy equal rights to become worthy citizen for contributing to every sphere of the social, political, economic and national arena in accelerating development.

He highly lauded the present government for implementing various programmes like free education, free textbook, sub-stipends and appointing more female teachers for development and welfare of the girl children.
