Tk 2.06m allocation for Manikganj Aus farmers

MANIKGANJ, Apr 09(BSS): The Government has taken a programme for increasing Aus cultivation in the district and allocated Tk 2.06 million as subsidy to poor and marginalised farmers
The Department of Agriculture Extension sources said under the programme a total of 2,365 bighas of land are being brought under Aus cultivation in the six upazilas in the district except Shibalaya, as the land there is not suitable for Aus farming.
The government is providing the farmers with seeds and fartilisers free of cost through BADC.
The upazilas brought under the programme are- Manikganj sadar, Singair, Saturia, Harirampur, Ghior and Daulatpur.
The sources said with the allocated money Department of Agriculture Extension will buy Aus seeds and diammonium phosphate (DAP) and muriate of potash (MoP) which will be distributed among the listed farmers by the Union Parishad authorities.
Once Manikganj district was popular for Aush cultivation which was cultivated in vast areas of the district.
The government has taken move to regain the glory of Aush cultivation in th district.
