Two children die after falling in Chattogram water-filled pit

CHATTOGRAM, Apr 05 (UNB): Two children died after falling into a water-filled pit created due to soil excavation for a brick kiln in Harualchhari of Fatikchhari upazila in Chattogram district on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Saki, 8, daughter of Habibur Rahman, and Sanzida, 11, daughter of Jagir Hossain. Both were residents of Ward No. 2 of Harualchhari Union.

Saki first fell into the pit while playing nearby. Sanzida also drowned while trying to save Saki.

Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury, Harualchhari Union Parishad Chairman, said the pit had formed due to soil excavation for a nearby brick kiln.

A pall of gloom descended on the area over the tragic deaths of the two children.
