Two siblings drown in Kishoreganj pond

KISHOREGANJ, July 29 (UNB): Two siblings drowned in a pond at Khalapara village in Mithamoin upazila of Kishoreganj district on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Rifat Mia, 4, and Safa Akter, 2-- two children of Rubel Mia of Khalapara village.

The two children were playing near a pond beside their house around 10 am, said Rezaul Karim, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Mithamoin Police Station.

At one stage, Safa fell into the water and drowned. Rifat also drowned while trying to save his sister.

Locals rescued the two children and took them to Mithamoin Upazila Health Complex, where the doctors declared them dead.

Mithamoin Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Abdullah-Al-Shafi said the children had died before they were brought to the hospital.
