Vermicompost fertiliser gaining popularity in Pabna

PABNA, Mar 11: Vermicompost fertiliser is gaining popularity in Chatmohor upazila of the district.

The peasants achieve a strong confidence on the organic fertiliser as they have got an eye catching production using them elsewhere the area previous year. The users of the fertiliser are increasing gradually due to its positive aspect.

The fertiliser producers are also making good profit preparing them with a large scale from last decade, said sub-assistance agriculture officer Azizur Rahman. He emphasizes on using the fertiliser both in T-Aman and Boro paddy fields simultaneously to get expected output.

"I use organic fertiliser in my cropland including T-Aman and Boro paddy every season and got good yield," said farmer Salam Hossain of the upazila. He also said, "I can save more than Tk 1200 to Tk 1400 for a bigha of land."

"It is very easy and cheap to produce at all as no costly feature need not to use," said a producer Lokman Hossain, 34, under the upazila. "The farmer show more interest to use the fertiliser as it proved them more lucrative."

Farmer Anisul Islam, 45, of the upazila said he uses the vermicompost fertiliser in his five bigha of Boro land aiming a good profit. He is mostly inspired to use the fertiliser in his cropland as he got a good result last T-Aman season.

In a recent visit this correspondent found the vermicompost artisans are passing busy time to produce the fertiliser at their project with assistance of their followers across the area. Meanwhile, the farmers are seen using the fertilities massively due to high market price of chemical fertiliser.

Deputy director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Bibhuti Bushon Sarker said the farmers are getting good yield using vermicompost in the district. It reduces production cost and keeps the crops fresh.
