SYLHET, May 23: The Water Development Board (WDB) would take immediate measures against the Surma river erosion under Doarabazar Sadar area in Sunamganj. It would cost Tk 15 million, official sources informed.

Appointment of contractor for the job had also been completed informed the WDB, executive engineer, Sunamganj Abu Baker Siddique adding, the project would help saving the upazila connecting road from the severe erosion.

The severe erosion on several places on the riverbank after the heavy rains weeks ago also snapped the roadlink between bordering Chhatak and Doarabazar upazilas of Sunamganj district.

Some officials from (WDB) head office from the capital also visited the affected areas that time.

As the erosion took serious turn a major part of the upazila's link road at Monglargaon went eroded while over 50 poor families of the villages Monglargaon, Majergaon, Muradpur, Purbo Masimpur etc became homeless.

The locals under the banner of 'Committee to protect the riverbank from erosion' had staged human chain and rallies to press the demand several occasions in the recent months.
