Wheat cultivators expect 1,560 tonnes of output in Joypurhat

JOYPURHAT, Jan 12: Wheat farmers of vast Barind tract under Joypurhat district are expecting to produce over 1,560 tonnes of fresh output this season if the weather condition remains favourable.

The farming is boosting economical condition this region over the last few years as the farmers can grow the crops easily in the Barind tract for being fertile of the soil. They needn't provide much irrigation system.

The farmers of Akkelpur, Panchbibi, Khetlal, Kalai and Sadar upazilas of the district have shown more interest to grow wheat in large scale as its cultivation is proved them as easy and lucrative compare to other Rabi crops cultivation.

The wheat farmers are expecting a better yield like previous years through adopting the bed plantation system. The excellent growing method is predicting good output across the green field.

Farmer Aminul Hossain under Akkelpur upazila said, he cultivated wheat on 24 decimal of land this season investing Tk 5,800 and expecting to grow more eight maunds of yield. Each maund of the crops may be sold at Tk 1,200 to 1,300 during harvesting period.

During a recent visit at the farming the correspondent found farmers were working in their field with much enthusiasm as the market price of the crops is very satisfactory. The crops will be appearing in the local markets in a small scale next March.

Deputy Director of DAE Sudhindranath Roy said wheat has been cultivated abundantly in the district this season due to its good profit. The farmers of the district are also expecting to be self-reliant, he added.
