Woman, son dead after being hit by a train in Bogura

BOGURA, Dec 28 (bdnews24.com): A woman and her son have died after being hit by a train at Sonatala upazila in Bogura district, with police suspecting suicide.

The incident occurred around 9:30am on Sunday in Chhoyghoria Para of Sonatala Municipality, said Sonatala Police Station Sub-Inspector Shariful Islam.

The victims were identified as Rony Begum, 30, a resident of the Doail area in Gobindaganj upazila, and her 8-year-old son Arafat.

Police said Rony had been heading towards Sonatala with her son in the morning and was standing on the railway track when a local man noticed them and tried to intervene.

Moments later, a Santahar-Lalmonirhat-bound Padmarag train struck the mother and son, killing them on the spot.

The man who attempted to intervene was injured in the incident.

"Initially, it is believed that the mother and son died by suicide," Shariful said, adding that police are investigating to determine the exact cause of death.
